‘Like A Pro’ tour Capstone stop is Nov. 20

The “Like A Pro” Tour will be on campus Monday, Nov. 20, in the Ferguson Student Center Great Hall.

The “Like A Pro” College Tour will be appearing at The University of Alabama as part of a nine-stop tour of the Southeast, empowering students to be competitive job-seekers by offering the opportunity to interact with executives from sponsor companies P&G and LinkedIn.

Activities including hourly chats, one-on-one executive appointments, professional headshot sessions, and promotional giveaways will be from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, in the Ferguson Student Center Great Hall.

The Like A Pro sessions can help develop one’s personal brand and provide preparation for professional interviews and other endeavors. The tour’s College Network Group offers advice and collaboration among the participating Southeast schools.

Students may RSVP for the Like A Pro tour by joining the event listing in Handshake (ua.joinhandshake.com).

One-on-One and Small Group Consultations

Discussions with LinkedIn/P&G executives and alumni will take place by appointment. From tactical profile building and networking advice to securing your first internship/job “bringing your whole self to work,” coaches will be able to cover a range of topics.

Executive Presentations

Each hour will feature a 15-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute Q&A with senior LinkedIn/P&G executives. Topics to be covered include “Building the Brand of You,” activating LinkedIn, getting started with networking, and more. Between classes, videos from professionals speaking about “What I Would Tell My Younger Self” will be shown.

Photo and Primp Area

A photographer will be on site to provide free headshots for students for professional use. During photo prep, stylists will be on hand to give tips on meeting with future companies regarding internships and jobs, and a selection of P&G’s Everyday products will be on display.

We’re one week out from the upcoming Fall 2017 Career Fairs, and we want you to be prepared and attend! The General Interest and Business Career Fair will be held Wednesday, Sept. 27, and the Technical and Engineering Career Fair¬†will be on Thursday, Sept. 28. Both fairs will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Coleman Coliseum. We hope you will join us, especially as we anticipate a record number of recruiters and recruiting companies to attend this event to network with you.

Students can use their¬†Handshake accounts to see which employers are coming by viewing the Career Fair event page at https://ua.joinhandshake.com/career_fairs/1868. Students can also click “Join Event” to ensure they’ll receive a pre-printed name tag, and they can “Favorite” employers as they decide which booths they most want to visit. We will also be offering several Career Chat workshops to help students prepare; these can be viewed on Handshake and on our calendar at career.ua.edu.

RSVP for a polished pre-printed name tag

Select “Join Event” on the event page (https://ua.joinhandshake.com/career_fairs/1868) by Sunday, Sept. 24, to get a pre-printed name tag when you check in at the fair! Make sure your graduation date and preferred name are correct before you RSVP by going to your student profile.

Get your resume reviewed

Be all-around career fair-ready by coming to our Career Chats, resume reviews, and headshot sessions in 3400 Ferguson Student Center. Get further prepared with previews and other resources

If you’re nervous about attending a Career Fair, come to a Career Chat in 3400 Ferguson to learn what you need about preparing for the event. Career Fair Crash Courses are offered at the following times:

  • 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18
  • 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19
  • 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25

We’ll also have Career Fair Previews an hour before each fair; arrive at Coleman Coliseum at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, or Thursday, Sept. 28, for a tour of the concourse and speak with a few employers in a casual setting. Register for these preview events in Handshake.

Career Center Preps for Attire For Hire Fashion Show (with photos)

Staff and students are busy ironing, sorting, and prepping for Tuesday night’s Attire For Hire Fashion Show, a networking event that officially debuts the Career Center’s new Crimson Career Closet, a free lending service dealing in professional clothing.

The Attire For Hire grand opening event starts at 6 p.m., with time for food and networking ahead of the fashion show main event, in the Great Hall of the Ferguson Student Center. Attendees are asked to come wearing “snappy casual” attire.

Walk-in hours and appointments for the Crimson Career Closet will resume Monday, Sept. 18; appointments can be made in Handshake (ua.joinhandshake.com).
